Farewell to winter 2021 and Valentin’s day in Vilnius

To date, Lithuanians celebrate all calendar and religious holidays according to the ancient customs. If you want to attend a genuine Lithuanian festival, you will have to come to Rumsiskes, the Lithuanian Folk Museum, where festivals are celebrated in accordance with all of the most important traditions. In February, to celebrate of Shrovetide, the festivities see up to 40 thousand people. Participants dressed in the questions of witches and devils travel through the courts demanding gifts, organise various competitions, dance, then burn a symbol Morė in order to chase away the winter, and eat the Shrove pancakes. 



Day 1: 12.02.2021, Friday VILNIUS

Arrival at Vilnius airport. Transfer to the hotel. Check-in. Depending on arrival time, you can to walk around the city.

Day 2: 13.02.2021, Saturday VILNIUS - RUMŠIŠKĖS – VILNIUS (ca. 160 km)

Trip to Rumsiskes, the Lithuanian OpenAir Museum, where you can experience how Shrovetide is celebrated traditionally in Lithuania. You have occasion not only to watch, but also together with the other guests to sing, to dance and to play.  Return to Vilnius.

Day 3: 14.02.2021, Sunday, Valentins,s Day VILNIUS (optional: trip to Trakai)

Walking tour of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania for more than 670 years, encompasses the most significant sights of the town: Gediminas Castle (14th century) on the Gediminas Hill, built by the founder of Vilnius city Grand Duke Gediminas; Cathedral Square; - St. Anne’s Church and Bernardine Church - Lithuanian gothic example; the Gates of Dawn with a holy image of the Virgin Mary; Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit; the Town Hall Square; Vilnius University (founded in 1579), President Palace. Coffee/ tea with cake at local restaurant. Afternoon optional half day excursion to Trakai or spend the rest of day in Vilnius celebrating Valentins,s Day. And remember that the most important thing is not where you spend this Valentine’s Day, but how you spend it. So, try to make the most of your visit and experience the best side of Vilnius!

Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to Vilnius airport.

Trip to Trakai ( ca. 4  hours, from Vilnius )  

Trip to Trakai, the former capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, nestled in a picturesque region of lakes, forests and hills 25 km from Vilnius, includes a visit to Trakai Castle (Entrance) ( Closed on Mondays) , the spectacular complex of defensive fortifications of the 15th century erected on the island in the lake Galvė. Today it houses the Historical and Applied Art Museum with an ethnographical exposition of Karaites, the small ethnic minority living in Trakai till nowadays. Return to Vilnius
